When we were building Bambify, the single most important decision we had to make was about fabric. Everything else — the designs, the colours, the fits — comes after. If the fabric is wrong, nothing else matters. We spent months researching, sampling, and testing before we arrived at our signature blend: 70% bamboo and 30% cotton. And we want to tell you exactly why.
What's Wrong with 100% Cotton?
Cotton has been the gold standard for children's clothing for decades, and we completely understand why. It is natural, widely available, familiar, and trusted by generations of parents. But pure cotton has limitations that become very obvious once you think about how kids actually live.
First, 100% cotton absorbs moisture and holds onto it. When your child sweats — and they always sweat — pure cotton keeps that moisture against their skin, making them feel damp, sticky, and uncomfortable. In India's climate, this is especially problematic.
Second, pure cotton loses its shape over time. It stretches out with wear and shrinks with washing. For children's clothing that needs to look good through dozens of wash cycles, this is a real problem.
Third, regular cotton can feel rough and stiff after repeated washing — not ideal for children who are already particular about textures and comfort.
We kept cotton in our blend for a very specific reason: it provides structural integrity, durability, and dimensional stability. The 30% cotton in Bambify fabric is what helps it hold its shape wash after wash.
What's Wrong with 100% Bamboo?
Pure bamboo fabric is extraordinarily soft — often compared to cashmere — and has excellent moisture-wicking properties. But on its own, it is too delicate for active children.
100% bamboo fabric pills easily when subjected to the kind of rough-and-tumble play that kids naturally engage in. It loses its structure quickly and lacks the resilience needed for daily wear. It also tends to be significantly more expensive, which puts it out of reach for most families.
We kept bamboo dominant in our blend — at 70% — because its benefits are irreplaceable. The softness, the breathability, the antibacterial properties, the moisture-wicking, the temperature regulation: these are the qualities that make the biggest difference to your child's daily comfort.
The Sweet Spot: Why 70-30 Works
The 70% bamboo and 30% cotton blend is not arbitrary. It is the result of careful testing to find the exact ratio where bamboo's premium qualities are fully expressed while cotton's structural strength prevents the weaknesses of pure bamboo from showing up.
The result is a fabric that is incredibly soft against your child's skin — softer than pure cotton — yet durable enough to handle daily wear, play, and washing without degrading. It wicks moisture away efficiently, stays fresh longer due to bamboo's natural antibacterial properties, and breathes exceptionally well in India's varied climate.
The Role of 40s Count Yarn and 230 GSM Interlock
Choosing the right fibre blend was only the first step. How that fibre is spun and woven matters just as much. At Bambify, we use 40s count premium yarn — a finer yarn that creates a smoother, softer fabric surface — and weave it into an interlock structure at 230 GSM.
Interlock is a double-knit construction that gives fabric excellent stretch recovery, meaning the garment bounces back to its original shape even after being stretched during wear or washing. At 230 GSM, the fabric has enough weight to feel premium and substantial without being heavy or restrictive. This is the construction you find in high-quality sportswear and premium innerwear globally — and we have brought it to children's everyday clothing.
